Was this a regression from the previous 0.21 package?

Maybe this should escalate to upstream. 0.21 was supposed to improve
performance, any datum of where it misse dthe goal will either help
to fix it in 0.21 sources, or the devs will give some hint as to what
went wrong.

BTW the other reporter on ATrpms-users now suddenly has good
performance back w/o really knowing how this was fixed. I suspect some
of the tuning he did brought the system into behaving well.
