libdrm 2.4.24 is already in the repos, and therefore everything should
install now.

These new libva packages are the ones provided upstream (and distributed by
ubuntu and archlinux), being easy to upgrade:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libva/

The previous versions were a fork of libva, made by the person who develops
the vdpau-video library.
The problem is that he uses sonames that change at each release, even though
there is no API change.
As a consequence, one has to recompile ffmpeg and vlc to be able to test
each new release.

There are accelerators for Intel graphics into the libva package. These are
working very well for me
either using vlc or totem.

The accelerator for nvidia requires vdpau-video installed, an they presented
issues with some files, e.g., 1080 line mkv files (even using
the previous libva versions). In the libva package there are now 11 tests.
Test 10 and 11 are the ones which fail on my nvidia 8400 mobile.

Unfortunately, there is no contact available in the vdpau-video page, so we
can file bug reports:

http://www.splitted-desktop.com/~gbeauchesne/

People can post their success/fail when using the libva/vdpau-video
libraries, and this way we may
gather enough information about the state of the vaapi packages.

In case of problems, it is just a question of disabling hardware
acceleration in vlc (preferences -> Input / Codecs -> Video Codecs ->
FFmpeg) and vdpau-video will no longer be used.
Totem requires the gstreamer-vaapi package installed.

Thanks.
