Bookmarked for future ref., thanks :)

Yes, the vanilla kernel + v4l (and no ivtv kmdl) is doing the trick for
me; I had just gotten used to not having to reboot when fiddling with RPMs
and kmdls, so it was odd to find a situation (I still don't understand!)
that required a reboot to sanitise. Hey ho.

It was nice being able to pull the latest RPMs down for 0.23.1 for the
first time in a while; the past couple of years I've been having to
recompile myself. I failed miserably to get the necessary deps built for my
old FC5 box, it was just too out of date.

   Thanks Axel!

FWIW, I don't use the analogue tuner part of my PVR-350; I just use the
s-video in (and I've not had to fiddle with that in Myth for a while; they
must've changed the names as I don't recall having to choose between oddly
names inputs, ISTRT they were right then. Nomatter).

I have a TVB-T card for terrestrial, and have an RGB->s-video converter
to convert my Sky box output into s-video for the PVR-350. Works a treat,
with a really nice picture. (actually, I have a feeling they're slightly
degrading the performance of the non-HD channels recently; could be that,
my converter box getting old, or my imaginations ...)
