And somebody with experience of EL5's 2.6.18. The task may be made 
slightly easier because RH have backported an enormous amount of more 
recent stuff to their 2.6.18 kernel. I don't remember exactly what now 
but I have in the past persuaded v4l stuff requiring more recent kernel 
versions to run on EL[45] release kernels because of this.
