Jefrey, this is a recent issue.

There is deinterlacing for playing videos or only for streaming.

I cannot answer you question. This is decided upstream. We just present
the users what we think it is stable enough. But sometimes we may be wrong.

Version 0.9.2 is the current official release, as you can check in videolan
website.
They do not support version 0.8 anymore.
Atrpms still has 0.8.6i. Therefore, you can easily go back to the previous
release if you want.

I tested the new release playing some dvd's, avi's (divx, xvid), and
mp3/ogg.
I had no problem. But certainly, there can be some drawbacks, we have to
deal with.
