not sure about a script, but you could set /etc/grub.conf to something other
than "0" -- usually the newest kernel. right now, i set mine to "1" so i
ahve the new kernel installed, but it will boot into the old kernel until i
install some kmdls and change it back to "0"
that's default=0 or default=1
