I've done online upgrades using yum of Fedora since before Fedora was
even around. Meaning I've upgraded some systems from RedHat to Fedora
without any issue.
You do have to be comfortable with resolving dependency issues, though.
I haven't tried any upgrades from F8 to F9 using preupgrade yet, but I
will be using it for my next F8 to F9 upgrade.
