working under Fedora 9... well, sort of. It took a bit of trial and error,
but basically what it boiled down to was uninstalling the nvidia packages
from ATrpms and then installing the 'nvidia-x11-drv' package from the
Freshrpms repo. This package had only one dependant package that I did not
already have installed, dkms. I installed the nvidia package from Freshrpms
manually, but of course using yum, smart, or another package update manager
should pick up the dependencies automatically. (The Freshrpms nvidia
package from May 15th installs just fine; I had some issues with the
previous one from May 14th.) Once I had the package installed I still
needed to pass Xorg the -ignoreABI option in order for the drivers to
properly load. I tried a couple of different things to do this, without any
luck, until I came across this post:
http://nareshv.blogspot.com/2008/04/fedora-9-rawhide-and-latest-nvidia-179.html

I say I "sort of" got them working because if you look at the above post you
will see there are a few gotchas; no 3D support yet and some of the commands
don't work. (Point 3 on the "gotcha" list is no longer applicable. The
latest package from Freshrpms does not replace the libwfb.so file.) I also
had some issues with Mythtv front-end, which caused me to switch from OpenGL
to QT, but I didn't really get to troubleshoot these much.
