OK, here are some details of my frontend system in question:
AMD Sempron 3100+ processor, with 1 GB of RAM, and an nVidia FX5200 graphics
card. I am running Fedora 8 (i386), completely up to date - kernel
2.6.24.5-85.fc8. I am using the nVidia drivers (169.12) from the ATrpms
repo. The mythtv packages are the latest from ATrpms (0.21-187), and as I
previously mentioned, prior to the official release of 0.21 I ran the SVN
0.21 packages from the bleeding repo for over a year. I still don't have a
great handle on playback profiles, but on this particular machine I was
running Default. When I ran into the problems last night I briefly tried
Slim and CPU+ (I think) without any better results; then decided to stop
messing around with the settings and post here instead for help. Prior to
the "Playback Profiles" settings showing up I was able to playback HD
without using XvMC.
Please let me know if you need any more details.
Thanks,
John
