Axel,
Besides tweaking your Apache config, have you considered deploying something
like Fedora's MirrorManager to offload your primary site to some of the
ATrpms mirrors automatically?  As an operator of a private
(company-internal) Fedora mirror, I must say it's neat to watch Fedora
installs automatically get updates from my mirror without me touching each
machine.  This would not work with a GeoIP-based mirror load-balancer like
others use.
