Ok.

The current fix is to simply set MYTHTV_HOME in
/etc/sysconfig/mythbackend to the proper location
or do
cp /usr/share/doc/mythtv-docs-0.21/contrib/init_scripts/fedora.init.mythbackend
/etc/init.d/mythbackend

the init.d script has been updated but it looks like Axel didn't
update the .spec file.
This issue has been discussed on the mythtv distribution list
