[ATrpms-users] nVidia drivers for GeForce 7900 GS

Axel sent me some things to try to get the nVidia drivers going. I updated my FC7 kernen to 2.6.22.4.65, and reinstalled the drivers (100.14.1...) from nVidia. Still no success.

xvinfo informs me that there is no XVideo module available in the kernel.

I completely uninstalled the nVidia drivers (from nVidia), (NVIDIA-...... .run --uninstall), did an rmmod to remove the kernel module, and rebooted. I verified that there was no nVidia stuff anywhere on the system.

I installed the atrpms yum.repos.d file for atrpms, and did a yum install of nvidia-kmdl and nvidia-graphics. Yum reports that the drivers were installed. However, I can find no way to tell X that those drivers are there. I tried using modprobe, and even did a find / -mount -name '*kmdl*', with no success.

I'm still not very comfortable with installing new drivers under Linux, and would appreciate it if you'd tell me what I'm doing wrong. I need to use qt-designer for a project, and I can't get the video working on it. (When I move a widget, the trailing artifacts make the screen illegible.)

One other piece of information: the 'nv' driver native to FC7 does the video in qt-designer just fine; it just won't drive both monitors.

Thanks!
