Jeff gives the example of users that don't want any package override
the vendor's, even if the vendor's is broken. I can't speak about the
current state of affairs in the latest RHEL kernel, but the fuse
package at ATrpms was born out of the need to override the broken due
userland and kernel kernelland fuse bits. There are bugzillas at
redhat.com that one can look up on this.
So you always have two kind of users, the extremely conservative ones
and the ones seeking functionality and bug fixing. Both groups have
their reasons, so for RHEL5 I'm trying to keep conservatives happy
with "stable" and the rest with "testing" - Fedora has since long left
the grounds of conservatism, so its less an issue there (sometimes it
is made an issue, but that are political war games).
Having said that I just moved fuse on RHEL5 to "testing" to keep the
promise made for RHEL5. :)
(will reflect on the next site update)
