Its to push developers to use the new stack. A few folks are hard at
work getting it to play nice with OHCI 1.0 controllers:

But as Axel has mentioned, it would have been nice to at least include
the older ieee modules with the f7/8 kernels and blacklist one or
the other so programs that are still very much dependent on the older
stack (e.g. mythtv) could be used:
