heheh.  and i found a problem too.  after you got that fixed, i
discovered that my 'fix' for the url broke the url i was using.

look at these two mrepo conf lines:
### ATrpms repository
atrpms-stable = rsync://rsync.atrpms.net/dl.atrpms.net/el
$release-$arch/atrpms/stable/
#atrpms-stable = rsync://rsync.atrpms.net/el
$release-$arch/atrpms/stable/

evolution is breaking the lines. there are really only two lines.

the first one works.  the commented out one doesn't.  but note the
seemingly double atrpms path in the working one:
sync.atrpms.net/dl.atrpms.net

interesting eh?  

thanks so much for your help axel!  i'm taking all this stuff over to my
friend on dialup line tomorrow (sunday) and using it to update his box.
