Yes. lircd do start if I don't use any options.

I have this, but get no reaction whatsoever when running irw, which is 
why I though I need to start lircd with --device=imon. Which doesn't work 
at all. Shouldn't I be able to see *something* when running irw and 
pressing buttons on the remote, even if I don't have the correct 
lircd.conf or .lircrc? 

I really doubt it is the cable, as the VFD works just fine, which is on 
the same cable connected to the internal USB port.
