hmmm, I did see something about /usr/share/alsa in my log files when I was 
using the 1.0.14 lib but didn't check it out as I went back to the previous 
version. I guess you may be right about these files being in two places or at 
least they are symlinked. At least this is something to keep in mind when I 
upgrade next time.
Just like you I also manually upgrade once in a while. The reason is purely 
that upgrades sometimes fail and I only upgrade when I have some spare time 
to fix the possible issues.
