I seem to remember something like that happening to me a few weeks ago 
when I upgraded from 2.6.20.1-2948.fc6 to 2.6.20.1-2952.fc6.

You probably run 2948, you will be upgrading to 2952, and 2944 is slated 
for auto-removal in this update.

Workaround: remove kernel 2.6.20-1.2944.fc6 first , this way yum won't 
ask you for it when you update your whole system.

# yum remove kernel-2.6.20-1.2944.fc6
# yum update
