Hi,

I am using FC6 with atrpms enabled and am having problems changing my nvidia
driver. I am not sure if this is an atrpms problem, but I thought I would
start here. I previously installed 8776 using:

yum -y install nvidia-graphics8776-kmdl-$KVER
yum -y install nvidia-graphics8776-libs nvidia-graphics8776

I have been trying to change to 9746 by executing:

yum -y install nvidia-graphics9746-kmdl-$KVER
yum -y install nvidia-graphics9746-libs nvidia-graphics9746

Now X will not start. Here are the relevant bits of the logs.

[root at mythtv ~]# dmesg | grep NVRM
NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 Kernel Module 1.0-8776 Mon Oct 16 21:56:04
PDT 2006
NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 1.0-9746, but
NVRM: this kernel module has the version 1.0-8776. Please
NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
NVRM: components have the same version.

/Xorg.0.log:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure
(EE) NVIDIA(0): that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and
(EE) NVIDIA(0): that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Please consult the NVIDIA README for details.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***

It seems to me that the kernel module has not been replaced. I have also
tried running the nvidia installer rather than rpm and it had the same
effect. Any suggestions? I am happy to provide more information if
necessary.

Thanks,

Matthew.
