[ATrpms-users] Upgrade to FC6: almost painless

I usually hate upgrading my production boxes. Taking a perfectly
well-oiled system and replacing all the basic packages usually makes me
antsy, since you never know when you'll get it back online. But, I
guess it's all part of the fun of running Fedora Core.

Needless to say, I was pretty nervous when I inserted the first Zod
CD-ROM in my dad's MythTV system yesterday afternoon. After a few
manoeuvres, both the install and the major yum update went very well
(which is quite a testimony for all the hard work going on behind the
scenes!), except for a few things:

1- I had to downgrade nvidia-graphics from 9746 to 9742. It seems the
packages are still available for FC5.i386 but they don't exist for
FC6.i386.

2- The problem with conflicting versions of faac, mentioned by Javier
Perez, last week. In order to avoid a conflict between Axel's version
(currently 1.25-1) and the one from freshrpms (1.25-2), yum update with
the --excluderepo freshrpms switch. Then, yum update your freshrpms
packages with - x faac. The box is working fine with ATrpms' version of
the package until Matthias and Axel talk it over.

3- There are still a few traces of FC5 in there, and I don't know if I
should remove them. The offending packages are:

libavc1394_0-0.5.30_10.fc5.at (15K)
librom1394_0-0.5.30_10.fc5.at (13K)

They don't seem to do much and they're tiny. Should I remove them?

Claude
