I gave it a go with smart earlier before I posted but still had no
luck. I just ran "yum update" and I got a whole load of output with
this at the end:

Added 11 new packages, deleted 54 old in 19.11 seconds
--> Processing Dependency: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2257.fc5 for
package: alsa-kmdl-2.6.18-1.2257.fc5
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2257.fc5 is needed
by package nvidia-graphics8774-kmdl-2.6.18-1.2257.fc5
Error: Missing Dependency: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2257.fc5 is needed
by package alsa-kmdl-2.6.18-1.2257.fc5

Couple of things with this: 1) how come there's a missing dependency;
what do I need to do to overcome that? 2) I thought there would be
nvida 9xxx packages by now; that's the versions I need. How come it's
only pulling in 8774?

FYI, my kernel version is 2.6.17-1.2174_FC5 and my nvidia version is
8774. Is this whole problem I've got due to me being on an old kernel
version? I seem to be in a catch 22 as "yum update kernel" returns:
Could not find update match for kernel
No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion

Regards,
Phill
