Axel, (you've probably seen this if you're on the ivtv list) it looks 
like the ivtv-firmware package has an out of date v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw 
file.  I used the "recommended" one at 
http://dl.ivtvdriver.org/ivtv/firmware/firmware.tar.gz and hey-presto it 
all worked fine.

$ ls -l /lib/firmware/*enc*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 262144 Feb 11 17:58 v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 376836 Jan 17  2005 v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw.origrpm

$ rpm -q --verify ivtv-firmware
.......T    /lib/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-dec.fw
S.5....T    /lib/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw
.......T    /lib/firmware/v4l-cx25840.fw

$ rpm -q ivtv-firmware
ivtv-firmware-1.8a-10.at
