Maybe you could just bother reading Axel previous answer ..

alsa doesn't compile on CentOS 5.1 latest kernel, nor does video4linux.

Installed nvidia drivers, now running the new kernel, all work fine.
Sound card works great don't even need the alsa latest kernel
