I made symlinks from /usr/share/alsa to /etc/alsa and downgraded to the oldest 
version of alsa-lib and alsa-utils I could find. Sound works well again.
Unfortunately using the latest kernel and IVTV I get interrupts in both sound 
and live TV video. This seems IVTV related. There's no high CPU usage. 
When booting an older kernel (2.6.19) it works well.
