It depends on the case. For example ipw3945 may be depedent on
ieee80211. But when that is the case the packages pull themselves in.

Out of these only ivtv and video4linux have some relationship.

It contains modules from video4linux, e.g. all drivers for various
capture cards. video4linux (or v4l/dvb) is the place where drivers are
developed and then committed to the kernel. In that sense it contains
the video (capture) system of upcoming kernels.

Up until lately they were seperate, but some time ago ivtv was
committed to video4linux. But that version (ivtv 1.0.0) is too
advanced for some applications to handle yet. That's why the latest
packages split off video4linux-ivtv from video4linux.

You only need video4linux if something is not working with your
kernel, either because the kernel turned it off (some early 2.6.20
kernel rpms did that), or because your hardware is better supported by
video4linux than by the kernel you use.

You're welcome. I'd say don't use video4linux unless you suspect it
may help and then just try it out.
