[ATrpms-users] Nvidia module not found during FC5smp boot

Greetings:

I use: 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5smp and 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5
I recently downloaded the nvidia drivers using
sudo yum install nvidia-graphics8774 nvidia-graphics8774-`uname -r`

Everything is brilliant for 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5
(which uses the
kmod-nvidia-1.0.8774-1.2.6.17_1.2187_FC5
rpm).

But when booting 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5smp I get the kernel module error:
nvidia.ko not found for ...FC5smp and the nvidia-glx drivers are not
loaded. This module is from the
nvidia-graphics8774-kmdl-2.6.17-1.2187_FC5smp-1.0_8774-75.fc5.at
rpm

After a lot of playing around renaming the default
nvidia-1_0-8774.ko to nvidia.ko, changing aliases in /etc/modprobe.conf,
and running depmod, the boot process still gives the error message (and
no nvidia-glx drivers), but lsmod shows the module is in fact loaded.
Moreover, I can manually load and unload the module. Also after this
error message, I can change xorg.conf to use nvidia, restart X and have
nvidia working. Sooooo, something is amiss in the FC5smp rpm booting
stuff, but not in the FC5 rpm booting stuff, and I've reached the end of
my knowledge.

Has anyone got this rpm and module to load correctly during boot?

Jim
