It's not a bug, it's a feature :)

It's the new OpenGL menu transitions introduced in this version. You can 
go back to the old behaviour it by selecting the "QT" painter in the 
General > Appearance  settings menu of Mythfrontend.

As for the weirdness of it, it's a matter of taste. I find the OpenGL 
menus quite cute. Wife likes them too.
