Hi John (& Gary)

I am pretty new to Linux, but i can say that i recently used yum for
installing the ALSA media-library, and I have no problems in MythTV
whatsoever.

Is the /etc/modprobe.conf configured correct?

With ALSA you have to configure modprobe, so that it uses the ALSA driver.

First open the file and comment out (#) all the lines tha regards the sound
device. They contain the word "snd".

Go to http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/ and find your sound provider in
the dropdown at the bottom.
In the list that comes beneath the drop-down, choose your soundcard. In the
next page there is a section called "Setting up modprobe and kmod support"
That you have to copy into the modprobe.conf.

For instance: I have a ICH5 Intel soundcard (internal) with AC97 chip, my
modprobe looks like this:

# ALSA portion
        alias char-major-116 snd
        alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
# module options should go here

        # OSS/Free portion
        alias char-major-14 soundcore
        alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

perhaps you have already done this, but if you haven't then it wil surely
not work at all.

Hope it helps.

Anders
