Ok, to double check, I restored alsa-lib-1.0.12. Before doing that, I
removed all dsnoop and dmix files from /etc/alsa/pcm. After installing
alsa-lib, rpm -Va alsa-lib output is empty. I run two mplayers... the
second mplayer has no sound.

I revert back to alsa-lib-1.0.11 and try two mplayers. This time both
produce sound. Again, before (re)-installing, I removed all dmix and
dsnoop files from /etc/alsa/pcm. This time, I notice that after
installing it, rpm -Va alsa-lib shows:

S.5....T c /etc/alsa/pcm/dmix.conf
S.5....T c /etc/alsa/pcm/dsnoop.conf

Does the install script modify these files? Perhaps something is wrong
with that in the 1.0.12 version?

I have on-board Intel audio (ich5).
