That's due to http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Installation

Mediawiki requires php5 since 1.7.

Even if it would make sense from a technical POV to upgrade php on SL,
people complain about base packages being upgraded from 3rd party
repos, and especially for SL or any enterprise grade distribution this
really shouldn't happen.

You can either install mediawiki <= 1.6.x, or use something else than
EL4/SL4. In a couple of months EL5/SL5 will have a newer php, so
you'll be able to use mediawiki 1.8.x (or 1.9.x) with SL5, until then
you need to do one of the two workarounds (older mediawiki or other
distribution)

And I should remove mediawiki for distribution that don't have php5,
that's an issue in the repo. Sorry for that.
