I was pointed to ATrpms potentially violating the law :)
In fact when I read the license back then, while it does read that it
is OK to do so for a non-lawyer, I wanted to make sure and contacted
Intel. Some while later I received some legal help by Intel in
packaging it in a license compatible form and an official confirmation
that the packages were clean to redistribute.
So no, ATrpms is not violating the firmware license and the packages
have propagated to most rpm based distributions by now.
