It's "castrated" so that we can include kaffeine in Fedora Extras, 
instead of having to rely on a 3rd party repo to do that.  I think it's 
not an unreasonable compromise to get such a wonderful app to the widest 
audience.

My point was to inquire whether there was sufficient demand for the 
nonfree bits to warrant the extra work to maintain a separate 
-extras-nonfree package in a 3rd party repo (like livna, atrpms, whatever).

Thanks, by the way, for the fixes to make the -extras-nonfree package 
actually work (I hadn't tested it much, if at all).  Your feedback is 
much appreciated.
