It's set to "1" but I note a difference in the path name:
2789 - /sys/power/suspend2/filewriter/enabled
2849 - /sys/power/suspend2/file/enabled

During boot:
Suspend2 FileAllocator: Testing whether you can resume:
Suspend2 2.2.8.4: FileAllocator: File signature found.
Resuming enabled.
Suspend2 2.2.8.4: Resuming enabled.
Suspend2 2.2.8.4: No image found.
Suspend2 FileAllocator: Testing whether you can resume:
Suspend2 2.2.8.4: FileAllocator: File signature found.
Resuming enabled.
Suspend2 2.2.8.4: Resuming enabled.
Suspend2 2.2.8.4: No image found.
After a failed suspend attempt:
FileAllocator is the active writer, but no filename has been set.
File Allocator didn't initialise okay.
Suspend2 2.2.8.4: Initialise modules failed!

Yes.
After a series of tests involving removing the suspend file and trying
to recreate it, I find that the 2789 kernel will create the file on
first invocation of hibernate, just as it always has. The 2849 kernel
does not - it just gives the same errors and tries to hibernate which,
of course, fails.
At this point it appears to be the difference in pathnames (i.e.
filewriter vs. file as noted above). I tried to create a link but, of
course, was denied since it's a dynamic system-created structure.
