[ATrpms-users] MythTV frontend-only package?

Hi all,

I run a mythtv setup at home with 1 combined backend/frontend and 3
frontend-only machines. Every time I want to upgrade one of my three
frontends I go through a long list of packages to upgrade, whether or
not these packages are used on that particular machine.

All my machines run FC4 and were setup using the methodology described
in Jarod's excellent howto. Step 10 recommends pulling the
'mythtv-suite' meta-package from ATrpms. While this strategy works fine
and makes it so easy to install the combined BE/FE, I sometimes wonder
about the extra load it puts on Axel's servers and on my own broadband
connexion, since my frontend-only units do not need many of the packages
(mythtv-backend, mythweb, are two obvious examples) and their
dependencies (such as httpd, php, mysql-server, etc.).

Of course, I could probably 'rpm --force -e' my way out of the various
packages not needed by the frontend, but I probably run the risk of
creating a huge mess. So my question is: Is there any way to cleanly
install a frontend without the irrelevant stuff?

Thanks in advance

Claude
