I think it happened when I was doing the alsa-kmdl-$KVER part of the 
installation, but I'm not sure how.  Now that I see that cubbi_suspend2 
is for laptops, I reverted back to the 2.6.17-1.2139_FC5 kernel 
version.  However, I still don't find a  -1.2139_FC5 version of 
alsa-kmdl-*.  I will look for instructions on how to build it myself, 
but if you have some handy, I would appreciate it.  ivtv did install ok, 
though, with this kernel version.
