There are "three" kind of channels: redhat base channel with the
release rpms, redhat updates channel with the updates, and 3rd party
channels.

What I wanted to say is that there is no yum/apt/etc. base and/or
updates channels due to licensing issues. You can only create these
locally and point yum/apt/smart/etc to them. E.g. you only get half
the cake with the RHEL4 3rd party repos. If some package requires an
RHEL4 base and/or update package that you haven't yet on your system
the depsolver will not be able to resolve it (unless you create this
locally).
