I understood this. During installation the installer detects your
partitioning and lvm config and keeps it as is if you like. You can
chose which partitions to format and which to keep.

The lvm config is stored within the lvm itself, e.g. you can nuke /etc
and linux still understands how to put the bits together.

Caveat: You still need to make a backup for Murphy.
