ivtv requires *any* kmdl, and usually smart chooses the kmdl for an
installed kernel. Did you have kernel-xen installed?

smart can't know for which installed kernel you want it to install the
kmdl for. Ideally it would install it for every kernel you have
installed, but that requires a plugin (which doesn't exist yet). For
yum I wrote a plugin, so it does the right thing for you.
