I've had success taking my backend and frontend from FC3 -> FC6
(incrementally) with yum and apt-get.  Be sure to back up anything
critical (MythDB for example) just in case the upgrade goes bad.

Basic steps:
1. Install new fedora-release file.
2. Make sure Yum repos / apt sources are set to the correct fedora
release version.
3. Run yum update (or apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade) and work
out any dependencies. Then proceed with the upgrade.

I've had to remove problematic packages (unresolved dependencies) and
then reinstall them after the upgrade.  Fortunately, none were
critical.

I found FC4 ->FC5 to be more problematic than FC3->FC4 and FC5->FC6,
but maybe it was just me.
