Perhaps your system thinks it's i586 now? There is a known bug for FC6
and the DVD installer:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Bugs/FC6Common

Try

rpm -qa --qf '%{name}-%{version}-%{release}.%{arch}.rpm\n' | grep i586

to see whether you have some elements like the kernel that think you
have an i586. Also check the output of uname -a.
