[ATrpms-users] ivtv kmdl problem with FC5

Hi Axel,

As FC4 just went legacy I upgraded my system to FC5 by sticking in the
FC5 DVD, running the upgrade and then getting the updated atrpms/medley
package config before a smart update/upgrade/fix.

All was well until it rebooted and udev was timing out at boot. After
Googling a bit I saw that ivtv might be causing problems so I
blacklisted ivtv. Afterwards, udev loaded and the machine booted ok.

If I then try to modprobe ivtv manually the modprobe command just hangs
(/var/log/messages has shows that bttv loads and then nothing else). If
I insmod it directly, it loads, but reports an error:

The ivtv module is loaded after this, but doing something like
cat /dev/video0 > tmp.mpg
results in glibc throwing a wobbler:
cat: /dev/video0*** glibc detected *** cat: free(): invalid next size
(fast): 0x09923860 ***
and the mythbackend also has problems.

I rebooted with the FC4 kernel and it's still happening, so I guess some
dependency has changed and broken it.

Do you think this is a packaging issue or have I cocked up my upgrade
somewhere? There's something odd going on with the firmware_helper -
it's reporting that firmware file is missing, but it's not!

Versions:
kernel-2.6.17-1.2174_FC5
udev-084-13
ivtv-kmdl-2.6.17-1.2174_FC5-0.7.0-117.fc5.at
ivtv-0.7.0-117.fc5.at
ivtv-firmware-1.8a-10.at

Any ideas?

Cheers
J.
