Yes, upgrading with yum/smart is rather safe this time. yum may bail
out due to too many packages in its memory, but that will not harm
your system (it will just not update it).
FWIW I would always upgrade kernel, reboot, upgrade glibc and then do
the full thing.
BTW the FC4 systems I have are all from scratch, so the above is just
academic. ;)
