Nobody forces you to do anything ;)

Some packages do require others, but there are no bogus
dependencies. If they are please report them to the list or
bugzilla.atrpms.net (or PM if security related).

I'm not changing any versions for fun. If you have packages that are
outdated and you add a repo with fresher content you will see that
happen.

That's a bit drastic, as AFAIU you didn't really encounter any
bugs/problems.
In any case, if you need only a couple packages, and are afraid of the
rest, just add the repo try an apt-get install packageIwant1
packageIwant2, and only the minimal set of packages will be proposed
for installation. If you disagree, cancel. If you agree, let it
install and deactivate ATrpms in sources.list (similar for any other
rpm resolver).
