I do recommend -f with apt-get, I don't recommend --force and --nodeps
with rpm :)

It looks like Winston had a bad build of the nvidia-graphics rpms,
they should not obsolete nvidia-graphics-devices, but require
them. Maybe you should report it to Winston and ask whether he can fix
his builds (he wanted to redo them anyway for a newer kernel).
