Yes it's libGL.so.1 and the apt-get install allows both to be installed 
simultaneously because the files are in different directories.  So, how 
does Apt/Rpm determine that nvidia is higher ranked than the xorg when 
delivering the libGL.so.1?  Alphabetically based on the package name?

I've not tried, since this is a headless box, but I cannot imagine the 
Nvidia supplied libGL.so.1 operating correctly on other graphics cards 
unless the lib provides a compat API that works in general in addition 
to its own accelerated functions.  So, should this really "Provides: 
libGL.so.1" ?  Because it would seem that this lib is really a 
specialized libGL built for Nvidia cards.
