OK, so you have two issues:
o nvidia module oopses, when found
o nvidia module is not found (under /updates/)
For the latter: Could you run depmod and check the contents of
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/modules.dep? Probably the issue is the same
(depmod does not like the nvidia modules and therefore does not list
them).
Have a look at the /var/log/messages output to see if there is more
information on why depmod/modprobe do not like that module.
