This issue has been fixed as of ivtv 0.3.2 - see:

long story short, download ivtv 0.3.2 or 0.2.0-rc3c, and that should
fix the kernel oops you've been seeing.  You can also grab John
Harvey's latest ivtv X driver (0.7) here:

however, a few problems haven't been totally resolved, AFAIK:
