kernels are marked as AllowDuplicates, which means that apt/synaptic
will not require you to have at most one, e.g. you can have several
"kernel"s installed.
The drawback is that they only get explicitly installed,
e.g. upgrade/dist-upgrade ignores new kernels. There are some scripts
for extending apt to install always the latest kernel by Panu, but
they did not make it to the ATrpms config yet (if you play with them,
let me know how they work).

For kernels and kernel modules I would use explicit install
instructions for now.
