Do you mean the splitting of the URL (which is kind of arbitrary), or
the stability classes?

In general the sources.list config lines differ very much from repo to
repo, but there is no issue with this.

Personally I recommend

rpm http://the.repo/<stability_class>/packages/<the_distro> <components>

where <stability_class> \in {production, testing, experimental, ...},
<the_distro> \in {redhat-i386-9, fedora-i386-1, ...} and <components>
\in {base, atrpms, ...}

There have been discussions on folder layout and stability classes on
the repo-coord list, and the above seems to suit a lot of repos. But I
must admit, that (due to lack of time) I haven't yet switched to that
format myself. But you can see the layout under download.atrpms.net.
