did you have alsa working on this system before? If yes, you should
have the matching alsa modules.conf settings. Otherwise there is a
very helpful helper, /usr/sbin/alsaconf, which is part of the
alsa-utils rpm. It detects the card and gives you the right
modules.conf (which you can still tune, if needed).

ATI drivers in rpm have long been on my TODO list, but whenever I look
at ATI's rpms I find some other distraction to be occupied with ;)
(and I also have no card to test while packaging).

vmware is commerical and cannot be distributed prepackaged on sites
like ATrpms.
